6 Media Giants
90% of all our news today is owned by six media giants:
- Comcast
- News Corporation
- The Walt Disney Company
- Viacom
- Time Warner
- CBS Corporation
This gives an enormous amount of control over our news to a few companies that are more concern with profits, entertainment and ratings than fair and accurate news. Check out this great example of controlled and packaged news stations.
Another example of media selling out, when Trump gave his first joint address to congress almost everything he said was a lie. But he said it in a more calmer than usual voice and this is what Fox, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN had to say.
Sinclair Broadcast Group
Sinclair Broadcast Group is the nation’s largest owner of local television stations, and requires its affiliates to insert conservative commentary in local newscasts.
Independent & Credible News
The following independent news sources are alternatives to the 6 media giants that meet the following criteria:
- Does not accept government, political or corporate funding
- Does not have a history of reporting fake news or sensationalizing news
- Does not have a high history of false claims on fact checking websites
- May have a bias but still able to critique all sides
- Follows some kind of journalism code of ethics (credible sources, non-sensationalizing titles, author’s name included, etc.)
*This doesn’t guarantee a removal of biases and all articles anywhere should always be critically viewed and when in doubt fact checked
